“Entering this internship, my knowledge of UTSNZ was limited to their role in organising inter-university competitive events. Unsure of what to expect, I hoped to gain insights and hands-on experience in event management, particularly behind the scenes.
Throughout my internship, I've acquired a diverse skill set and gained experience in various areas. Early on, I learned about UTSNZ's extensive work, which far exceeded my initial assumptions. As I developed an understanding of the behind-the-scenes efforts for UTSNZ events, I began assisting with pre-event planning. This involvement allowed me to take on responsibilities such as event promotion and stakeholder communication.
Attending events as an intern, I observed how meticulous planning translated into successful events. At the same time, I was also able to hone my event social media skills being given a lead role in digital media coverage.
Post-event, I participated in evaluations, learning about the crucial follow-up work that ensures future success. Additionally, I contributed to UTSNZ’s initiatives outside championship events, including some support work for students attending international competitions.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at UTSNZ, where I developed a broad range of skills and gained valuable experience across multiple tasks. One of the most rewarding aspects was the connections I made. Attending events and participating in meetings with various organisations allowed me to build a valuable network within the sports industry.
With these connections and the knowledge I've gained, I now feel much more prepared for my future in the sports industry post-university. Confident in my ability to handle diverse tasks in events and management, my time with UTSNZ has been an incredibly valuable experience, exceeding my expectations and equipping me for a successful career ahead.”
