UTSNZ Seeks High Performance Student-Athlete for Board Role

University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ) is calling for applications for a Student Board Representative, following the conclusion of the current representative’s term.

This appointment comes at an important time for UTSNZ, as the organisation sets a new strategic plan and continues to strengthen its strategic focus on student wellbeing, performance pathways, and the visibility of tertiary athletes within the national sporting system.

For this particular recruitment round, UTSNZ is intentionally targeting high-performance student-athletes who hold specific attributes, including:

  • Experience in elite training and competition environments (e.g. national representation, elite domestic competition, recognised performance and/or development pathways, or international events such as the World University Games)
  • Knowledge of athlete development and performance pathways
  • An understanding of the wellbeing and academic pressures faced by high-performing student-athletes
  • Knowledge of the high performance sport sector
  • A willingness to actively advocate for and champion aspiring athlete voices

The successful candidate will bring valuable lived experience to the Board and help ensure that governance decisions reflect the realities of high-performing student-athletes.

The role involves up to four Board meetings per year and provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in national sport governance while shaping the future of tertiary sport in Aotearoa.
