Exciting Global Opportunity: Young Sports Media Talent Sought for Rhine-Ruhr 2025

The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games Organising Committee has launched a global search for 28 emerging sports media professionals to join its innovative Young Sports Media Talents project. This initiative, an expansion of the FISU Young Reporters Programme established in 2011, aims to recruit reporters, photographers, and audio-descriptive commentators to cover the upcoming Games.

Applicants aged 18 to 25 are invited to participate in online guest lectures this spring. Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive training in the weeks leading up to the Games, which commence on 16 July 2025. The project offers free travel and accommodation, mentorship from industry experts, and the opportunity to cover events in host cities such as Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Hagen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, and Berlin.

The Organising Committee is seeking 17 German students - six reporters, five photographers, and six audio-descriptive commentators for visually impaired spectators. Additionally, 11 international (non-EU) students will be selected - six reporters and five photographers.

Maxim Berdnikov, Media Services Manager for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games, expressed enthusiasm for the project's debut, stating that the expansion into photography and commentary reflects growing student interest and a commitment to inclusivity.

FISU President Leonz Eder highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting that the enhanced programme will offer new opportunities to young media talents worldwide.

For New Zealand students, this is yet another exciting international pathway, particularly for those who have already honed their skills at a national level through UTSNZ events - whether in commentary, journalism, or photography volunteering. We encourage all aspiring sports media professionals to seize this opportunity and take their talents to the international stage!

In a pioneering move, all training materials will be made open source through an educational platform called 'U-Media', set to launch in spring 2025.

The application deadline is 28 February 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews following the deadline. For detailed application information, including required documents and qualifications, please visit the official application page

This initiative represents a unique opportunity for young media enthusiasts to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the global coverage of a major multi-sport event.
